My Profile

Let’s talk about myself. My name is Rashed Saeed Salem al Maamari. I’m 19 years old. I was born in Abu Dhabi. Now I live in Al Rahba city which is about 50 Km away from Abu Dhabi. I have lived with my parents in Al Rahba since 1996. We are 15 brothers and sisters and I’m number 13 on the list.

M y Childhood

I had a wonderful and happy childhood, because my parents took care of me very well. Also my brothers and sisters liked to play with me, but some times they made me like their toy. I remember one day, my mother told me that when I was two years old, my mother was cooking the dinner, and she heard my brothers laughing in my room. When she came to my room, she saw my brothers throwing me from one to other like a ball! My mother was shocked and then she started screaming to stop my brothers. Thank goodness, I was saved. Because if she hadn’t came, something bad would have happened to me. When my mother told me that I’m going start going school, I was very excited but also a little bit worried, because I didn’t know what I’m going to do there and many other things. The first day was very interesting, because I was surprised at number of children in the school. I met new people that I had never seen. After few days, the school became my favored place to go. I remember one day when some of us did well in a quiz, the teacher sent us to the headmaster room to get gifts! The headmaster has two big boxes which were full of different types of toys and then he told us to take one toy that we wanted. What a nice prize for hard work.

M y teenage

My teenage years were a special period in my life, because I become more aware about things in this world. Also I had new interests like computer and reading. I’m not very interested in sports. For example football, l believe that football is the most popular sport in UAE and almost every one is charmed by this sport but I’m not! That makes all my friends wondering why. Many people think that football is wonderful and exciting, but I think sometimes it is dangerous and waste of time. For example, instead of wasting your time watching football match you can read a useful book that will help you. But on the other hand, I like having trips with my friends, playing games and many other things like any other teenager.

M y Travels

I rarely going out of UAE, sometimes I go to Oman to visit my uncle and cousins. Also I visit Africa once with my father. I would like to travel more and to many different countries to discover their culture, customs and see new things. Traveling makes the person know more about this world, understand other culture and have a lot of fun. I remember one time when I was in Oman with my uncle, I went climbing with my cousins to the near mountain. When we reached the top, it begun to rain heavily and quickly we found a cave to hide. We were cold and starving, because we were stuck there all the day. On the next day we came back home and my uncle punished us by staying at home for a week.

My Interests

In my free time, I have many things to do like reading. I like reading stories and comics for fun. Also I read science and computer books. It’s very interesting and useful. I love pets very much, that’s why I have a cat and aquarium with cute fish inside. They are like my friends. I have a lot of fun when I feed the fishes and play with my cat. They add happiness to my life. The most thing I’m interest in is computer, not playing video games but designing. I like designing with programs like Photoshop and Flash. With these programs I can turn things in my imagination to real things and very beautiful. That makes me creative and feels happy and also it is very enjoyable.

Something that has influenced me

My view of the world and life changed massively when I visited Africa. I went there once with my father to visit his old friend. His friend lived on Pemba Island which is near another famous island called Zanzibar. We went there when I was 16 years old. The island is like paradise, full of trees and plants and that is why people called it “The Green Island“. Although the place looks great, the lifestyle is totally different. They are really paupers. The airport was very small and it is as big as medium sized primary school. The town is nice, but very small and dirty. Also it very crowded and some people live in the street! Out side of the town, things are a little better. There is the wonderful nature; every where in green, a lot of monkeys and birds and the pure air. On the other hand, there is no electricity at all! Also there is little transport. People makes fire to cook. All that made me realize how lucky I am to live in the UAE. It is huge difference between hearing and seeing poverty. I don’t complain any more when the electricity in shutdown, because I know that there are some people living without electricity. Also I don’t get angry if don’t live in big villa because there are others living in the street. The trip to Africa changed my life.

My Future

In the future I would like to be architect, because I love designing very much. I enjoy a lot when I design some thing like building or bridges that will help people and make their life easier. That is why I like playing designing games. It is like practicing for a future career. Also I would like to have good wife who can understand me and live happily together.

An Inconvenient Truth review

An Inconvenient Truth is a movie made by the vice president of the United State Al Gore. It talks about the dangers facing our earth especially global warming with the results and facts. Also he explained that the main cause of global warming is carbon dioxide which produced by the human activities like factories and different vehicles. Those gases affect the earth temperature.

In addition he showed the relation between the amount of carbon dioxide and the increase of the temperature over the years. Also he talked effects of global warming like the increasing in seawater level as result of ice melting from the polar and the unexpected natural disasters

Masdar city

Masdar city is the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city. The budget for master city will be about $ 22 billion. It will take eight years to build. 50,000 people will be able to live there. Masdar located near to the Abu Dhabi International Airport. The point is to reducing emissions by Masdar City and having clean development mechanism. Masdar city will be the first city for not using fossil fuel and gasses for power and use renewable energy like solar and wind instead.

Masdar also aims to prove that it is possible to live in limitation and improve the quality of people's lives. Masdar city will allow people to walk or to use bicycle for transportation. Most of the building and working places will be near each other. The city will be shaded in such a way to keep the city cool and clean from dust and sand storm.

Masdar’s green dream is not for all - keywords and bits

2-Sustainability

3-Efficiency

4-Recourses

5-Lifestyle

6-Hyper-efficient

7-Technology

8-Greening

9-Swathes

10- Alternative energy

The Bits:
-----------

1- City that uses every bit of its available resources.

2- Electricity and water do nothing to change behaviour patterns.

3- The city of 50000 will cut its energy usage by 50-70 per cent.

4- City will be surrounded by acres of photovoltaic solar panels and wind turbine.

5- The world can live without using too much energy.

6- The resources are extremely cheap.

7- Reduce emissions while lowering energy costs for the city.

8- Recyclable rubbish will be run through a gasification machine.

9- Transportation is a major source of global warming pollution.

10- Public transport and waste recycling are not existent.

Renewable energy solution

Renewable energy is the natural clean sources of energy like the sun and wind. The first solution is Renewable Energy Standards. Another solution is Solar and Wind Installations by use this energy to produce our electricity and water.

Energy efficiency solution

Energy efficiency means using less energy by using a better technology to generate the power for the city. It has several solutions like making new buildings more energy efficient. Another solution is use the light emitting diode (LED) because it turns off if there enough lights so it save the energy. Also Cities can benefit from energy efficient by a system that combines heat and power.

Green vehicle solutions

Green vehicle solutions are the technology exists today to reduce global warming pollution from cars, trucks and SUVs. People should green their cities with more trees and use hybrid gas electric and other vehicles that go farther on a gallon of gas. Also Governments have to encourage people to buy hybrid vehicles by providing them free parking and lower registration fees and taxes. In addition, they can change the old buses with new buses work with hybrid-electric diesel or natural gas which are friendlier with environment

What can we do?( Carbon Footprint )

There are many solutions for carbon footprint issue. For example use renewable energy like solar and wind generator instead of the fusel fuel to produce electricity. Also we have to reduce the using our cars and trying use public transport. Another solution is to buy the local food and product to reduce the carbon produced from importing goods from outside. Also we have to encourage recycling.

Measure your footprint

I have used the Footprint calculator to measure my footprint and it came to 2.92 planets. My usage of food was 27%, travel 3%, home 29% and 41% for stuff. I don’t thing this measurement is suitable for Middle East because the different climate. For example we can't use bicycle in U.A.E because it's very difficult due to the hot weather.

Carbon Footprint ! - What is it ??

In general a carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted over the full life cycle of a product or service and measured in units of carbon dioxide. Green houses and human activities are responsible to produce carbon dioxide. Every one has his own carbon footprint, which comes from the different activities like heat, light, refrigeration, emissions from cars and freight and all activities that generate carbon emission. There are two kind of Carbon Footprint, primary and secondary carbon footprint.

Abu Dhabi raped development - Cause & Effects

If looked at Abu Dhabi before 40 years before now, you will find small village with few huts near the coast. In less than half century Abu Dhabi developed in amazing way and become one of the most developed cities in the world. In this essay, I would like to explore the reasons behind that raped development and look at some effect of that.

There are many causes and factors of Abu Dhabi raped development. One the main causes is oil discovery, after oil discovery Abu Dhabi had enough money to plane and buy all modern materials needed and equipment instead of primitive ones in building the infrastructure. Another important reason is the wise leader vision which made the education and health care in their priorities. And the result was the development in the different fields.

The raped development affects Abu Dhabi in many ways. One of the visible effects is the life style, there are many modern buildings for different goals. Another thing is the revolution in transport methods which became easier, faster and more comfortable. Also there are many new facilities appeared like parks, cinemas, modern schools and universities, malls and shopping centres and luxurious hotels-restaurants. However there some negative affects consequences of raped development. One point is the environment, developed cities usually have factories and a lot of cars which produce carbon dioxide and pollute the air in addition of the high level of noise.

Overall, I believe that Abu Dhabi became a batter place to live after the development happened. It's true that development has some negative affects, however it development have much more benefits.

Population of poeple under 35 - Line Graph

This line graph shows the percentage of young people who aged under 35 between India and Italy. Overall, the population of the two countries was increasing in the same way, but later Italy population began to decrease.

In 1940, India young people population was higher than Italy by 15% which was 25%. In the next 20 years both countries had fluctuation, however the population rat between them still almost the same and India recoded 50% while Italy recode was 35%.in 1980, Italy had sudden increase in young people population and the gap between them decreased to just 5%. In the next few years, the two countries young population went in opposite ways. India's young people population continued to increase, while Italy population fell slightly. India recoded about 75% and Italy 30%.

As you see, the gap between India and Italy was almost the same till 1990.and the both counties began to go in different ways.

TV dose more harm full than good ?? - Argument

Nowadays, almost every one has one or more TV sits in their homes. Also TV's become important equipment of furniture. Although TV has may has many advantages, I believe that TV is more harmful than its advantages.

The supporters of TV claim that TV has a lot of useful programs like news, documentaries science and children programs. Those programs give the chance to discover new things in this world. That gives the children good knowledge in easy way. Also they pointed that TV could be a good entertainment tool to spend the free time. You can watch comedy programs and play games. Elderly people are included too, they spend hours enjoy watching TV especially they don’t work any more. In addition those in favor of TV believe that TV is very important tool in business world.TV is used to attract people by advertising their products or equipments so they can get huge profit.

However, TV could cause some problem in many ways. Those people against TV insist that TV affect many people health. Some people spend to long time in front of TV without taking a break and that causing headache and eyes problems. Also some people gained a lot of Wight and become a couch potato. All that can increase the possibilities of heart disease and high bloodpressure. Also the objectors of TV pointed out that TV is weaken the family and society bond. In family events many families sin in front of TV and watching quietly instead of having nice chat with each other or having a picnic together. Also the anti-TV people claimed the TV makes children don’t want to study to watch their favorite programs.

To concluded, Although TV's are useful in many ways, I believe that TV are more harmful especially to the children who need to be active and using their imagination to be healthy and TV can't do that.

Oil Prices

This line graph shows the changes of oil prices for 11 months in 2004.overall, there is big difference in price between the begging and the end of the year. Although there is fluctuation in oil price, the oil price was higher at the end of the year.

From January to February, the oil prices had an steady increase and reached to about $48. In March, the oil prices remain stable and didn’t change at $49. oil price reached it's peak at the begging of May and the dropped sharply and reached it's lowest price since January. Oil price had slight increase in October which recoded $50.

As you see, oil prices continued to rise although there were some unstable periods.

Sport injuries - Table

This table shows the number of injures in different sports. Overall, Australian football had the highest sport injures, while volleyball had the rate of injures.

First, the highest percentage of sport injuries is 24.5% in Australian football with record of 10122 injures. Soccer has the second highest number of injuries and 9.2% of sport injuries. Also 7.1% of them are admitted to hospital. Rugby recoded 3636injuried and also about 95% of them happened during the competition. Volleyball and squash have the minimum number of injures which is between 776-787 injuries. The sport that have the highest percentage of injures during the competition are rugby, netball and hockey.

As you see, the highest number of injures are usually in the group sports which have a lot of moving and running.

Valentine's Day Gifts - Pie Charts

These two pie charts show the popular types of gifts that men ant women buy for each other for Valentine's Day. Overall, cards, flowers and candy are the common gifts to both genders.

Cards got the highest percentage with 18% for men and 27% for women. The second most popular gift is flowers which is 16% for men and 11% for women. Also candy are popular gift, women are likely to buy candy for men at 21% while men just 14%. Other types of gifts are less popular. Jewelry almost has the same percentage for both genders which is about 10%. Personal care products have the lowest rat of all types of gifts at 1% for women and 6% for men.

In summary, the Valentine's Day most popular gifts are cards, flowers and candy for both genders. And lingerie and personal care product are on the bottom of gifts list.

Global warming (problems & solutions)

Global warming is one of the biggest threats to our planet and every thing lives on it. This essay will explain some problems caused by Global warming and then suggest some solutions.

Every one knows that the temperature of our planet is increasing because the different human activities and pollution. All that may cause many problems. The most to conceder is the increase of seawater level. Most of the coastal cities will be in danger and some countries may completely disappear. Al that because the increasing in temperature is going to melt the ice in the South and North Pole. Another problem is climate changing. Temperature changing will affect the climate in many ways. There will be more storms, floods and unusual rain seasons and some places is going to suffer from dryness.

Humans can do a lot to decreasing Global warming effect and save the planet. One way is by reduce using oil which produce a lot of carbon dioxide one of the green house gases and the main reason of global warming and depend more on the renewable energy like solar and wind energy. Another solution is to use less energy or electricity. By using less electricity, less oil and recourses are going to used and less carbon dioxide is produced.

In conclusion, Global warming can affect our earth seriously and changing the way we live. We have to take care of our earth, because we just have only one earth and there are no other places to go.
